Early 1900 Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus strove to create a visionary and Utopian craft combining beauty and usefulness through architecture, sculpture, art and engineering as kind of a “Gesammtkunstwerk”. The style of Bauhaus featured many aspects of modern architecture and design from steel and glass. The Bauhaus was a trendsetter in architecture and design for the next hundred years.

Today we are dealing with large scale problems on CO2 emission. By referring to the old Bauhaus the new European Bauhaus ambition aims to think about new ways of living, “beyond buildings” by bringing benefit to the whole society and to think about a masterplan for climate change. If we aim for a carbon footprint of zero in 2050 and keep the global warming below 2 C°, we need to coagulate design, arts, science and technology to unfold the European Green Deal. Can a profound, collaborative, multidisciplinary ambition be an enabler of societal transformation to turn the green renovation building programme into a cultural movement?
